Number of visitors to Georgia in July up 9.5% from 2014
Wednesday, August 5The number of visitors to Georgia in the month of July was 9.5 percent higher than in the same period last year, according to the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA).
According to the MIA’s monthly report, 737,696 people visited Georgia in July.
Out of the total number of visitors, 336,664 were tourists. That is a 2.2 percent increase since last year. There were 182,693 visitors who used Georgia as a transit country – a 24.7 percent increase from last year. The remaining 218,339 people came for other purposes, which is a 10.4 percent increase, compared to 2014.
As usual, the highest number of visitors came from Turkey (12 percent more), Azerbaijan (7.9 percent more), Armenia (11.9 percent more), Russia (6.6 percent more) and Ukraine (0.6 percent more).
There were some notable changes in the statistics: a 32 percent increase in visitors from Kazakhstan, 48 percent increase in visitors from Moldova, 746 percent increase from United Arab Emirates and 137 percent more people visiting from Saudi Arabia.
In the first seven months of 2015, 3,069,999 persons entered the country. This is an increase of 4.9 percent from last year. (DF watch)
