WB names new regional director for South Caucasus

Wednesday, September 9
The World Bank appointed Mercy Tembon the new regional director for the South Caucasus effective October 1, 2015, the Georgian newspaper ‘Financial’ reported Sept. 7.

Tembon replaces Henry Kerali, who was appointed the country director for Ghana, Liberia and Sierra Leone, based in Accra.

‘Financial’ said Tembon in her position would oversee the WB’s program in Azerbaijan, Armenia, Georgia, and lead the development and implementation of the WB Country Partnership Strategies in the three countries, as well as continue the dialogue with civil society and development partners.

Tembon joined the WB in 2000 as an education specialist in the Human Development Department in the Africa Region.

“She has held various positions including an extended acting Country Director post for Tanzania and her most recent assignment being Country Manager for Burkina Faso,” said the report.

Henry Kerali served as the WB regional director for the South Caucasus from July 1, 2012.

Previously, he held positions in South America, Africa, Asia and Europe. Prior to being appointed the regional director, Kerali was the manager of the WB for transport programs in Europe and Central Asia. (Trend.az)
