Turkey to build own car

Wednesday, December 16
Turkey will start serial production of the country’s first domestically-produced car in 2019, the Turkish Minister of Science, Industry and Technology Fikri Is?k said, the Turkish Ahaber TV channel reported.

The car - which will be modelled on the Saab 9-3 - will come in different body types and power units.

Earlier, the minister said Turkey acquired a license from Sweden’s car maker Saab to produce a car modelled on Saab's 9-3.

After mass production starts, Turkey is interested in exporting the domestically produced cars to Azerbaijan, as well as several other countries, the Turkish Science, Industry and Technology Ministry earlier told Trend.

Turkey ranks sixth in Europe in terms of car production. It produces cars from such brands as Ford, FIAT, Renault, Toyota, Honda, Opel, Hyundai, Mercedes-Benz and MAN.

Aside from that, Turkey manufactures buses from domestic companies, such as BMC, Temsa and Otokar. (Trend.az)
