Georgia’s ruling party, Georgian Dream-Democratic Georgia (GDDG), and the main opposition faction, the United National Movement (UNM), sent congratulations to Donald Trump, who won the US presidential elections on November 8.

The GDDG is confident that under the leadership of President Trump, Georgia and the US will continue their existing cooperation with new energy to ensure peace, security, freedom and economic development. The majority also underlined that the two countries have enjoyed 25 years of friendship and strategic partnership.

“Our relations have been developing in all government conditions in different strategic directions. We are confident that under the leadership of President Trump, Georgia and the US will continue the existing cooperation with new energy to ensure peace, security, freedom and economic development,” the statement of the ruling party reads.

Moreover, GDDG expressed readiness to work closely with the new Administration and Congress and to deepen successful strategic partnership and friendship that already exists between the countries.

The UNM also released a statement of congratulations, hoping that US-Georgia relations would be intense under the new President and Administration, and Georgia would remain high on the foreign policy agenda of the USA.

“Strengthening the strategic relationship between Georgia and the US is extremely important for the security of our country and the entire region,” the UNM stated.

Donald Trump became the 45th President of the USA. He received 276 votes of the voters’ panel, while Hilary Clinton got only 218. At least 270 votes were needed for the candidate to win the presidential elections.
