Parliamentary opposition parties, as well as some outside parliament, are unanimous in claiming that Interior Minister Giorgi Mgebrishvili must resign, as he “fails to cope with his obligations”.

Their strong criticism and demand has been voiced frequently and intensified after several incidents.

In particular, in May four young men were stabbed on Guramishvili Avenue in a suburb of Tbilisi, and two of them were transported to hospital in critical condition.

People say that the dispute between the attackers and those injured had started the day before.

Shortly afterwards, a young man was shot dead on Vazha-Pshavela Avenue, in central Tbilisi.

The incident occurred late at night. Locals heard several shots fired.

The young man was hospitalized but he died immediately. Other details are currently unknown.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs state that both incidents are being investigated.

The United National Movement and the European Georgia opposition parties say that the crime rate has increased in Georgia under the current Georgian Dream state leadership.

The opposition also says that the current Minister fails to fulfil his obligations.

However the statistics which is provided by official bodies proof that fewer crimes were reported than in previous years.
