Georgia’s external trade up 13.5%: Turkey, Russia, China – top trading partners

Turkey, Russia and China are Georgia’s top trade partners this year shows the preliminary data from the National Statistics Office of Georgia (Geostat).

Georgia’s top 10 trade partners in January-June 2017 made for 66 percent of the country’s total trade turnover, with Turkey ($731.7 million), Russia ($518.3 million) and Azerbaijan ($412.2 million) filling the top three spots.

Trade with EU countries

Trade turnover with European Union (EU) countries increased by 10.9 percent year-on-year (y/y) and amounted to $1303.2 million, said Geostat.

Exports were worth $294.7 million (30.4 percent higher), while imports reached $1008.5 million (6.3 percent higher).

Trade with CIS countries

The external trade turnover of Georgia with the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) countries totaled $1539.2 million in January-June 2017 – a 34.4 percent higher compared to the same period of 2016.

Exports were worth $474.1 million (61.2 percent higher) while imports equalled $1065.1 million (25.2 percent higher).

• Copper ores and concentrates (worth $216.1 million, or 17.5 percent of total exports)
• Ferro-alloys (worth $153.5 million, or 12.4 percent of total exports)
• Motor cars (worth $84.8 million, or 6.9 percent of total exports)

Georgia's top imported commodities were:
• Petroleum and petroleum oils (worth $285.2 million, or 7.9 percent of total imports)
• Motor cars (worth $222.4 million or 6.2 percent of total imports)
