Erdogan: Opening of Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway is an important event

The opening of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars (BTK) railway on October 30 in Baku is an important event, Turkish media cited the country’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan as saying Oct. 20.

Erdogan said that from the very beginning he believed in the importance of implementing that project.

The BTK railway has been constructed on the basis a Georgian-Azerbaijani-Turkish intergovernmental agreement. The railway’s peak capacity will be 17 million tons of cargo per year. At an initial stage, this figure will be one million passengers and 6.5 million tons of cargo.
