Georgia Joins Transport Corridor Linking Afghanistan to Europe

(ASHGABAT) -- Turkmenistan’s Parliament – the Mejlis–ratified an agreement Saturday to create a transit corridor linking Afghanistan with Europe.

The $2 billion agreement, signed on the sidelines of the 7th Regional Economic Cooperation Conference on Afghanistan in mid-November, envisages a transit corridor that begins in western Afghanistan, then passes through the Caspian Sea port of Turkmenbashi. moving on to Baku, Tbilisi and Ankara before terminating in Istanbul.

The corridor is part of a plan aimed atincreasing the economic integration of Afghanistan into the wider Eurasian region.
