As the Deadline for the Anaklia Development Consortium to submit necessary documents confirming the financial state of the project to the government expires, officials talk about the government’s role in the building of the port.

According to the Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia, Archil Talakvadze, the truth is that the state has done everything in its power to make this project a success.

“I’m talking about the infrastructure for which the state has provided resources, subordinated loans, the deadlines have been pushed several times. The truth is, while the state has shown its support for this project, the private sector is responsible for future developments, the consortium and investors have to fulfill their obligations,” noted Talakvadze.

According to Davit Bakradze, the Leader of European Georgia, said that if the consortium is not able to fulfill its obligations, the government is responsible for this, as the government is the reason for the problems.

“The government, on the one hand, is making every effort to prevent the Anaklia consortium from being successful and ensures that they fail to fulfill taken obligations, while on the other hand, it is trying to act as a neutral moderator to judge whether the consortium has fulfilled its obligations. How can we be surprised that the consortium cannot fulfill its obligations, when they are under these conditions?” noted Bakradze.

Independent MP Levan Koberidze believes the government has done everything to undermine the reputation of those who must attract the investment needed to develop Anaklia port. According to him, the government is creating a problem with the Anaklia project.

As Koberidze points out, the government may consider the Anaklia Development Consortium partners as dangerous for the government.

“The government has done everything to undermine the reputation of those who must talk to its foreign partners and thus attract investment in Anaklia. Therefore, the government should take responsibility for the problems of Anaklia port,” noted Koberidze.

Member of the United National Movement, Roman Gotsiridze assessed the developments surrounding the Anaklia Port project, noting that the project would not be implemented under the “leadership of Georgian Dream government.”

According to him, "1 year ago, Bidzina Ivanishvili closed the port as it was requested by Russia, and declaring it was only a matter of time."

Anaklia Development Consortium consists of specialized firms with diverse backgrounds, which together form a global business leadership team that should work with the Government of Georgia to construct the port of Anaklia.

ADC’s vision for the Anaklia Port is to create a world-class port complex for Georgia and establish Anaklia as a focal point of trade to and from Central Asia and on the New Silk Road trade route between China and Europe.
