Georgian Dream Foreign Minister Maka Botchorishvili is representing Georgia at the 32nd OSCE Ministerial Council in Vienna from December 3 to 5. During the event, she met with senior OSCE officials and is scheduled for further bilateral discussions.
In her address on December 4, OSCE Chairperson-in-Office and Finnish Foreign Minister Elina Valtonen highlighted Georgia's strategic importance. "In Georgia, our commitment to sovereignty and territorial integrity remains firm through the Geneva International Discussions and the Incident Prevention and Response Mechanism," Valtonen said. She added that her October visit to Tbilisi included discussions on civil society engagement, water diplomacy, and democratic backsliding. "My visit also addressed the essential role of civil society and the freedom of people," she said.
On December 3, Botchorishvili met with OSCE Secretary General Feridun Sinirlioglu to discuss the Russia-Georgia conflict.
According to the Georgian Foreign Ministry, the minister highlighted "the grave security, human rights, and humanitarian situation in the occupied regions."
The discussions emphasized the OSCE's role in promoting a peaceful resolution and the importance of the Geneva International Discussions. Botchorishvili told Sinirlioglu that "upholding the principles of international law is essential for strengthening peace and stability in the region."
Later the same day, Botchorishvili met with OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media Jan Braathu to discuss challenges to media freedom. The minister reportedly stressed "the deliberate disinformation campaigns targeting Georgia, which are aimed at undermining the country's stability," and underlined the role of the OSCE media office in addressing such threats.
Botchorishvili also stated that "ensuring freedom of expression and a free and pluralistic media environment is one of the main priorities of the Georgian government."
