Georgia is aiming to rebuild and strengthen its relationship with the United States, Georgian Dream Foreign Minister Maka Botchorishvili said, following high-level meetings with US officials in Milan and Washington.
"I had the opportunity to talk to the US Secretary of State during the opening of the Milan Olympics. One thing that is clear is that the new administration has a very negative legacy towards Georgia. The Secretary of State stated unequivocally that all this must be reviewed and relations with Georgia must be placed on the U.S. agenda," Botchorishvili told journalists.
She expressed hope that these discussions will translate into concrete actions. "We hope that in the near future we will see concrete steps taken by the U.S. to normalize relations with Georgia and then discuss the issues that we have discussed many times. We want a strategic partnership from a clean slate, taking into account the interests of both countries," she said.
Botchorishvili noted that, in parallel with her talks with Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Deputy Foreign Minister Lasha Darsalia held meetings in Washington with senior U.S. officials. "Of course, this was also a very good opportunity to talk more about the details of our relations. We expect that the issue of reviewing relations with Georgia will be more actively on the U.S. agenda," she said.
Botchorishvili described her conversations with U.S. Vice President JD Vance and Rubio as meaningful. "On the first day, we communicated more with US Vice President JD Vance, and on the second day, we talked more with Secretary of State Marco Rubio, which was quite meaningful, and even in that short time, we were able to focus on the important issues that are on the Georgia-U.S. agenda today," Botchorishvili said.
