UK-Georgia Economic Ties in Focus as Economy Minister Meets British Ambassador

Georgian Dream Economy Minister Mariam Kvrivishvili met with UK Ambassador Gareth Ward on March 27 to discuss the "dynamics of economic cooperation" between the two nations, according to a press release from the Ministry of Economy.
The meeting, also attended by Georgian Dream Deputy Ministers Tamar Ioseliani and Genadi Arveladze, centered on Georgia's growing role as a logistical and investment partner. The ministry highlighted that the United Kingdom has maintained a dominant position in the Georgian market, stating: "It was noted that over the past two years, the United Kingdom has ranked first in terms of direct foreign investment in Georgia, which reflects British business confidence in the country's economy and investment environment."
Infrastructure and regional connectivity were central to the talks. The press release noted that "Georgia plans to further strengthen its role as a regional transit hub," with Kvrivishvili asserting that the nation "continues its integration into international transport markets and global supply chains through infrastructure modernization."
The officials also reviewed the "positive dynamics" of direct air travel following the entry of British Airways and EasyJet into the market. The ministry reported that these new operations have already resulted in "rapid growth" in passenger traffic between the two capitals.
On the subject of international security and maritime trade, the Georgian side detailed its "mechanisms for enforcing sanctions in the maritime transport sector." Kvrivishvili emphasized that all port procedures "fully comply with national and international obligations, which the country implements meticulously."
Despite the detailed report from the Georgian government, the British Embassy has not issued a statement regarding the meeting.
