Georgian Dream Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze and Health Minister Mikheil Sarjveladze met with parents of children suffering from Duchenne muscular dystrophy, with both sides agreeing to continue discussions on treatment options and possible solutions.

Kobakhidze said the meeting focused on exchanging information and views on a range of issues, including medications. According to the prime minister, the parties agreed at the outset to hold a second meeting no later than the following morning in an effort to identify ways to resolve the issue.

"We hope that together we will find ways to resolve this issue," Kobakhidze said, describing the matter as highly sensitive and stressing that decisions should be guided first and foremost by the interests of the children.

Sarjveladze described the meeting as productive and said dialogue with parents had been important since the first days of the protests. He noted that decisions regarding treatment are complex because four different medications are under consideration, each at a different stage in terms of availability, evaluation, potential effectiveness, and readiness for approval.

According to the health minister, fewer questions remain regarding two of the medications, while the others require more detailed assessment. He said the government must carefully analyze all available information before making decisions and emphasized that any decision would be taken without delay once it is ready.

Sarjveladze added that the meeting also included discussion of what he described as the political exploitation of the issue. He reiterated the government's commitment to finding solutions that would benefit patients and said further meetings with parents are expected in the near future.
