Economy Ministry Reviews Anaklia Port Master Plan During Netherlands Visit

The Georgian Dream government is moving forward with plans to update the master plan for the Anaklia Deep-Sea Port as officials work to ensure the project is developed in line with market needs and makes full use of the port's designated area.
Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Tamar Ioseliani discussed the project during a working visit to the Kingdom of the Netherlands, where she met with representatives of the international consulting company Port Consultants Rotterdam.
According to the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development, the meeting focused on possible revisions to the Anaklia Deep-Sea Port development master plan, next steps for the project, identifying any missing information, and assessing key risks.
Ioseliani said the master plan will play a decisive role in the long-term success of the port.
"The development and success of the Anaklia Deepwater Port depends on a properly planned master plan, which determines the utilization of its full potential," she said.
She added that the discussions also involved the company responsible for preparing the port's detailed design, which is being used for the ongoing construction works.
"Today we had a meeting with both our consultant, who is working on updating the master plan of the Anaklia Deepwater Port, and the company that prepared the detailed design, with which construction works are currently underway in the Anaklia Deepwater Port in order to build the appropriate breakwater and deepen the depth to 18 meters," Ioseliani said.
She said the talks focused on revising the existing plan so the port's entire territory can be developed efficiently and positioned to meet future commercial demand.
"We had very important discussions on how to update the existing master plan in order to effectively use, fully utilize the territory allocated for the Anaklia Port and accordingly plan it with the parameters to be successful and meet market demands," she said.
The working visit to the Netherlands also included Ivane Abashidze, Director of the Maritime Transport Agency, and Zurab Sichinava, Director of Anaklia Sea Port.
