Georgia Expects to Launch Anaklia Railway Construction Tender by End of October

A tender for the construction of a railway line connecting Georgia's Anaklia Deep-Sea Port to the national rail network could be announced by the end of October, Economy and Sustainable Development Minister Mariam Kvrivishvili said.
Speaking on Business Insider Georgia, Kvrivishvili said negotiations with international financial institutions had been completed and Georgian Railway had finalized the design for the railway connection to the port.
"Alongside the construction of the port's core infrastructure, it is crucial for the state to ensure the timely announcement of construction tenders for the access road and railway connection," Kvrivishvili said.
"We can now publicly confirm, for the first time, that we have concluded negotiations with our international partners, specifically financial institutions. Meanwhile, Georgian Railway has finalized the design for the railway line connecting to the Anaklia Port," she said.
The minister said the government expects to be ready to launch the tender with its international partners next month.
"We anticipate that, together with our partners, we will be ready to launch the construction tender for the Anaklia deep-sea port's railway access line next month, by the end of October," Kvrivishvili said.
She said the government has established a timetable for the project and that the relevant state agencies are working according to the schedule.
"We have a very specific plan with a corresponding timeline that all relevant agencies, and of course the Ministry of Economy, are strictly following," she said.
Kvrivishvili said the government's main objective is for Anaklia Port to receive its first vessel in 2029 and that the necessary infrastructure must be completed on time to meet that target.
"Our primary objective is for the Anaklia deep-sea port to receive its first vessel in 2029, and we will certainly do everything necessary to achieve this," she said.
Construction work at the port itself is also progressing, with the breakwater being built and dredging operations underway.
"We have two parallel processes currently in progress: the construction of the breakwater and dredging operations," Kvrivishvili said.
She said a second vessel had arrived at the port and was carrying out dredging work, while construction of the breakwater was also advancing.
"The breakwater construction process is also proceeding very successfully. Today, I can confidently state that the highly active construction work in Anaklia is fully aligned with our schedule," the minister said.
