The Georgian Dream parliamentary delegation is holding official meetings in China.
The delegation is currently visiting the People's Republic of China for a series of strategic meetings aimed at deepening bilateral cooperation.
The delegation includes: Political Council member and Deputy Speaker of Parliament Giorgi Volski; Political Council member and Chair of the Foreign Relations Committee Nikoloz Samkharadze; Chair of the Education, Science, and Youth Affairs Committee Mariam Lashkhi; Chair of the Economic Policy Committee Shota Berekashvili; and Chair of the Agrarian Issues Committee Gela Samkharouli.
As part of the visit, the Georgian politicians held multi-sectoral meetings with the Chinese Communist Party, the National People's Congress of China, the Center for Language Education and Cooperation (CLEC) under the Ministry of Education, the China Chamber of Commerce for Import and Export of Machinery and Electronic Products (CCTIP), the Shenzhen municipal authorities, and leading tech corporations.
Georgia is viewed as a country of geostrategic importance - a key transit hub in the transcontinental "Middle Corridor" connecting Europe and Asia.
The functional role of Georgia's transit infrastructure has grown significantly since 2022, evidenced by a 30% increase in cargo turnover.
The EU's official positions reaffirm the international significance of regional cooperation.
For China, strengthening ties with Georgia forms part of an alternative mechanism for accessing European markets - a particularly relevant consideration given the geopolitical limitations currently affecting northern transport routes.
The main objectives of the visit include the consolidation of inter-party mechanisms and the multi-sectoral advancement of the China-Georgia strategic partnership - particularly in education, agriculture, and economic cooperation - areas aligned with Georgia's socio-economic interests and its readiness to play a vital bridging role between East and West.
Georgia's potential as a transit country underscores its systemic importance in the new configuration of Eurasian trade, offering access to a market of 2.3 billion consumers through a web of free trade agreements.
Deputy Speaker Giorgi Volski stated:
"The importance of the Middle Corridor has long been discussed, but today it is of critical relevance to everyone - to both the East and the West. These two markets cannot be connected without the Middle Corridor."
Volski also noted:
"Georgia's geopolitical location meets the standards required for the development of the historic Silk Road. Through Georgia, important transformations will take place - ones that will primarily benefit the Georgian people by improving their economic and social conditions," the party's statement reads.
