The Speaker of Georgian Dream-led Parliament, Shalva Papuashvili, has criticized the refusal to invite the Georgian delegation to the Conference of Parliamentary Committees for Union Affairs of Parliaments of the European Union (COSAC), calling it a violation of Georgia's parliamentary rights.

In a letter addressed to the Speaker of the Danish Parliament, Papuashvili stressed that the Georgian government has never halted its European Union integration process. He emphasized that Georgia continues to work actively to meet the requirements of its EU Association Agreement.

The refusal to invite Georgia, according to Papuashvili, was justified by claims that the country suspended its EU integration efforts. He called this assertion disinformation.

"The Georgian government has never stated that it is halting the EU integration process. On the contrary, the government spares no effort to fulfill the requirements placed on a candidate country," Papuashvili wrote.

He further noted that COSAC regulations require that each candidate country be invited as an observer to plenary and extraordinary meetings. The Danish Parliament, he said, does not have the authority to deny Georgia's participation.

"Refusing to invite the Georgian delegation constitutes a violation of the Georgian Parliament's right to participate in COSAC meetings," Papuashvili said. He added that such actions contradict the spirit of the rules-based international order and the principles of the EU treaties.

Papuashvili concluded by affirming Georgia's commitment to dialogue and cooperation in the European integration process.

"We remain open to future cooperation and dialogue," he wrote.

The letter was a response to correspondence from Brigitte Klintskov Jerkel, Chair of the European Affairs Committee of the Danish Parliament, who indicated there were no plans to invite Georgian representatives to the COSAC meeting. Jerkel also cited statements by some that Georgia had suspended its EU integration, a claim Papuashvili rejected.
