The State Security Service (SSS) has announced the discovery of a large cache of firearms, combat materials, and explosive substances with detonators allegedly intended for use in planned attacks in Tbilisi.

According to the agency, the materials were to be used on October 4 in diversionary acts timed with organized group violence and an attempt to seize the President's residence. The SSS said the plot was directed by a Georgian representative of one of the military units operating in Ukraine.

"Based on operational information, through investigative actions conducted by the State Security Service, a large quantity of firearms, combat materials, and explosive substances with detonators have been discovered," the agency stated.

Investigators said Georgian citizen B.Ch. was instructed to obtain the weapons and explosives. He reportedly purchased the materials and arranged for a technician to create a remote-control detonator. "We have also identified a person who, on B.Ch.'s order, manufactured a detonator remote control, with which it was possible to activate the detonator," the SSS said, adding that the individual has been detained and is cooperating with investigators.

Authorities said the materials were hidden in a forest area near Tbilisi and were discovered during preventive operations. "As a result of preventive measures taken by State Security Service employees, it was possible to neutralize the circle of persons who, presumably, were to transport the aforementioned combat materials and explosive substances to the center of Tbilisi," the statement continued.

The SSS said a search was conducted at B.Ch.'s residence, where his phone was seized. "As a result of examining the phone, one of the main pieces of evidence was seized-a few video recordings in which B.Ch. shows the weapons and combat materials he purchased from a person not yet identified by the investigation," the agency noted.

B.Ch. will be charged in connection with the crime, and a wanted notice will be issued for him. The investigation is being carried out under Part 3 of Article 236 of the Criminal Code, which concerns the illegal purchase and possession of firearms and explosives.

The SSS emphasized that operational and investigative measures are ongoing to identify and detain others involved. The agency also expressed gratitude to law enforcement partners. "On behalf of the leadership of the State Security Service, we express gratitude to the employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Prosecutor's Office, and the Special State Protection Service for their significant contribution to the measures conducted and for averting the threats that existed," the statement concluded.
