Grigol Gegelia, the international secretary of Lelo-Strong Georgia, has responded to a recent statement from the Weimar Triangle countries regarding new legislative amendments on foreign funding and political activity adopted by the Georgian Parliament.

"The Weimar countries are very important, states with significant influence, historically very important partners for Georgia. We hear from these countries that the Georgian state is betraying the course and the obligations it has taken towards the international community and, in particular, towards the European Union and the European normative agenda," Gegelia said.

He emphasized that while the door to the European Union remains open, the current government is not taking steps to move toward it. "On the one hand, the door to the European Union is open, and on the other hand, the Georgian Dream regime is doing nothing to move towards this door. On the contrary, it is actively blocking millions of Georgians from the path that leads to real peace, real prosperity, and greater political stability," he said.

Gegelia also criticized Georgian Dream's international alignment. "In the name of peace, the Georgian Dream is actively cooperating with the war party, the warring parties, the warring states. It is doing everything to prevent Georgia from taking effective steps forward towards an agenda based on the rules of European peace," he said.

The Weimar Triangle, composed of France, Germany, and Poland, had expressed concern that the new legislation could undermine civil society and violate Georgia's obligations under the European Union Association Agreement.
