Opposition Alliance Calls for National Mobilization Against 'Russian Regime'

The recently formed Opposition Alliance released a sharp statement on April 9, claiming Georgia's independence is at risk under what it calls the "Russian dictatorship" of billionaire Bidzina Ivanishvili. The group argued that the country cannot survive if it remains isolated from the West and left alone to face Russia.

Drawing a parallel to the 1991 independence referendum, the alliance stated that the same "unified will" used to break from the Soviet Union must now be channeled to dismantle the current Georgian Dream government. They characterized the ruling party as a "traitorous regime" that has cut Georgia off from the free world.

To address this, the alliance announced plans for a large-scale protest on May 26, Georgia's Independence Day. They described the upcoming event as the start of a "national mobilization" intended to peacefully remove the government and return the country to its pro-Western path. The statement ended with a call for citizens to join them in a push for "victory to the end."

Iranian Ambassador Outlines 100-Day Plan for Georgia Ties

Seyed Ali Moujani said he will present a report to Tehran proposing steps to deepen cooperation with Georgia over the next 100 days.

In a statement, he said the plan aims to expand economic ties, strengthen regional stability, and develop relations between the two countries.

Moujani described Georgia as a key transit hub between East and West and North and South, pointing to its role in energy and transport routes.

"In the report that I will present to Tehran today, I will propose ways of cooperation and relations with Georgia for the next 100-day period," he said.

He also referred to recent regional developments and tensions, saying they have reshaped the geopolitical environment.

The ambassador marked 90 days since the start of his mission in Tbilisi, saying the period had provided insight into Georgia's political and economic landscape.
