Kazbegi Latest Suitor for South Ossetian Provisional Administration
The beer company Kazbegi is investing around GEL 500 000 in South Ossetia, working hand-in-hand with the temporary administrative unit of the conflict zone. Five projects are in the pipeline: building a trade center and a fruit processing plant, developing beekeeping and cattle-breeding, and processing raw construction materials. (more)
Fitch Upgrades Ratings for Four Georgian Banks
International rating agency Fitch Ratings announced last week it upgraded its ratings for four Georgian banks—TBC Bank, Bank of Georgia, ProCredit Bank Georgia and VTB Bank (Georgia). “In the cases of Bank of Georgia and TBC Bank, the upgrades reflect the greater probability of support from the Georgian state,” a Fitch press release explains. “Kokoity-Fandarast!”, Ossetian for “Farewell, Kokoity!”, is the slogan of a new campaign to pressure de facto president Eduard Kokoity to quit, announced a leader of the South Ossetian People for Peace movement, Vladimir Sanakoyev, on July 22. (more)

Predictions of Russian War on Georgia Unrealistic
Not long ago Georgian media caught wind of an article published a month ago in the Lithuanian newspaper Delfi.In the article, Lithuanian political analyst Saulus Lebauskas predicts gloom and doom saying Georgia and Russia are headed for an armed conflict in 2008. (more)

Georgian Foreign Trade Jumps 37 Percent in 2007
Georgia’s foreign trade turnover rose 37.1 percent in the first half of the year compared to the same period last year, the Statistics Department says, reaching over USD 2.7 billion. (more)
